What counts as a source

• The state fish & wildlife, natural resources or marine fisheries agency.
• An official state outdoor annual or licensing PDF.
• The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service state license directory.
• NOAA Fisheries, only to explain the federal saltwater angler registry where it is relevant.

Update cadence

Most states publish new fees on their license-year boundary, which differs by state. Records carry both the date the source was retrieved and the date the figures were last confirmed. A record whose confirmation is older than 180 days is reported as stale by npm run data:freshness and re-checked before it is served as current.

Known limitations

• Prices are base agency fees. Vendor, issuance and transaction fees added at checkout vary by retailer and are not included.
• We record the common recreational options — resident and non-resident annual, short-term, combination, senior and youth — not every specialty license a state offers.
• Reciprocal border-water agreements, county-level rules and special managed waters are noted where the agency documents them, but are not modelled exhaustively.
• Tribal licensing is out of scope and is never inferred.
• 1 of 50 records are not yet complete enough to index; those pages say so at the top.
