Age and residency rules
Who counts as a resident. To qualify for a resident game and fish license a person shall be domiciled and shall physically reside in Wyoming for one (1) full year (365 consecutive days) immediately preceding the date of application or purchase, and shall not have claimed residency elsewhere for any other purpose during that one-year period (Wyo. Stat. s. 23-1-107 and Game and Fish Commission rules).
Age-based rules
- Wyoming residents under the age of 14 do not require a fishing license. WGFD: "The angler does NOT need a fishing license or conservation stamp and their creel limit is the same as those requiring licenses."
- Nonresident youth under the age of 14 do not need a fishing license if they are accompanied by an adult with a valid Wyoming fishing license. Still required: The youth must be accompanied by an adult who possesses a valid Wyoming fishing license, and the youth's creel limit is included in that adult's creel limit. To take their own full creel limit the youth must buy a daily or nonresident youth 12-month fishing license (plus a conservation stamp with the 12-month license).
- The Pioneer Game Bird/Small Game & Fishing License is issued free to Wyoming residents who are 65 years old with 30 years cumulative Wyoming residency. All pioneer license holders are exempt from the conservation stamp requirement. Still required: The angler must apply for and obtain the free Pioneer license from a Game & Fish Regional Office or the Cheyenne Headquarters Office; it is a no-charge license, not a blanket exemption. Eligibility also requires 30 years of cumulative Wyoming residency, which must be established with the application.
